The Licking Bison of La Madeleine
The Licking Bison of La Madeleine
Price:
$25.00
Quantity:
This modern replica depicts the famous "Licking Bison" of La Madeleine Rock Shelter, in the Dordogne region of France. The original was carved over 12,000 years ago out of reindeer antler. It is believed to be a section of a spear thrower, called a "propulseur" in French. This piece is a favorite of atlatl enthusiasts and art students because of its unique artistic perspective. One horn is raised in bold relief, and the other is carved it, showing a more advanced technique in Paleolithic art.
This piece measures 4 and 1/4th inches by about 3 inches, and is made in high quality epoxy which is much stronger than the plasters of the previous generation of casts.
