Lost Lake Variant Cast

|
This great example shows the finest workmanship of the very early Archaic Period(8 to 10,000 B.P.), on loan from the Pailler collection, Ohio. It is a variant of the Lost Lake type which is found throughout the southeastern U.S. This particular example is large for the type, at 90cm compared to the average of around 65cm, but its notches are more basal than the classic corner notched version. All other aspects are similar to the classic type, including the ground base and the fine flaking style in a white southeastern chert. Lost Lakes are some of the finest notched points in the world, and are named after the Lost Lake area of Limestone Co, Alabamba. This one was found in the town of Swifton, in Jackskon Co, Arkansas. It measures roughly 3 and half inches long and 2 inches wide.
