Guilford Point Cast

This wonderful Guilford was sent to Occpaleo for casting in 2011.  It is a large and well flaked example of the type, showing great workmanship for the tough materials used.  This one was made in green shale, and measures 95mm long.  It was found in Granville County, NC.  Guilfords date to the Early to Middle Archaic(around 5 to 7,000 years ago) and are found in the areas surrounding Virginia and the Carolinas.  They are typically made from tough materials such as quartzites, slates, and shales.  This type was first named after examples found in Guilford County, NC.  (ex Myer collection, current private collection).
