Graham Cave Point Cast

The Graham Cave type is dated to around 7,ooo to possibly as old as 10,000 years B.P. These were first typed in 1951 from the Graham Cave archaeology site in Montgomery County, MO. This example was made in Burlington chert, which was the most common material for this type. Our cast was made from a loan of the famous Pailler collection, and this example is one of the most finely flaked and largest examples in existence at 152 mm. The point shows the classic features of the type, showing great notches which are very slightly upturned with the concave base flaked very thin.
This particular artifact was found by Otto Hillringerin in 1947, near the Dry Fork Creek in Montgomery county, Missouri and then pictured in the MISSOURI ARCHAEOLOGIST. Formally in the collections of E.L. Keumo, Bob Rampan, and Rik Barfield. As of 2006 it is currently in the Pailler collection, OH.
