Colorado Calf Creek Point Cast

Price: $22.00
A cast of an authentic Calf Creek point from Las Animas County, Colorado. 2 inches long.  This is one of the finest examples known in the world, sent to Occpaleo for casting from a private collection in Ohio.  The Calf if one of the most skillfully made points in the world, made famous by its deep and delicate notching.  The associated culture ranged througout the American midwest, going as far east as Tennessee.  An idea of the time period for this point was given in 2003 when a Calf Creek point was excavated embedded in a bison skull.  The skull dated around 5,000 years ago, although many of the point type manuals has this type listed as far back as 8 to 9,000 years ago.  This find also showed that the type could well be used as a projectile point.  It was previously thought by many that the type could only be used as a knife because of its delicate notching and width.  The material is often cherts from the Ozarks, and this one was made in a tan, but patinated slightly white chert.  Cast copyright Occpaleo 2013
